Sales Incentive Manager / Commercial Excellence Manager

Our Commercial Excellence team are looking for an experienced business analyst to manage our sales incentive program for Amgen UK & Ireland. Our Commercial Excellence Team:

Working in close collaboration with our business units and brand teams, the Commercial Excellence function is responsible for the design, delivery and analysis of sales and marketing enablement programs including sales & marketing operations, sales force effectiveness and multichannel customer engagement.

Role Overview:

This role will shape Amgen’s sales incentive compensation philosophy and strategy in line with Business Unit sales and promotional plans.

You will lead the end-to-end sales incentive planning and execution process, including scheme design and KPI setting, sales target modelling, incentive plan health check analysis, stakeholder engagement and plan reporting and communication.

In this role you will work closely with senior leaders in Sales, Finance, HR and other departments to ensure a fair, motivating and transparent approach to incentive compensation for our sales organisation.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leads the sales incentive planning cycle, engaging with UK & Ireland sales leaders to translate promotional brand strategy into an incentive plan aligned with desired sales focus and performance.

  • Designs sprints, contests and other kickers in line with brand and business unit strategies that engage field force and align effort on measurable commercial objectives.

  • Manages plan design process including component selection and weighting, KPI setting and brand priority for multiple sales teams.

  • Facilitates sales target modelling exercise; harnesses performance data including national sales forecast, historical sales and territory potential.

  • Manages development of data analytics tools and solutions to support target setting, measurement and reporting working in conjunction with external consultancies.

  • Coordinates approval and documentation of sales incentive scheme and targets by commercial leadership, including incentive Governance Committee.

  • Administers the incentive plan payout. Leads the calculation of plan outcomes, prepares payout data for approval by Governance Committee, and publishing payout reports for sales management. Coordinates the delivery of payout information to Payroll.

  • Partners with sales and brand leaders in designing effective communication to drive field force engagement with the incentive plan.

  • Builds reporting tools for the field to provide a comprehensive understanding of how the incentive plan works, and ability for staff to track and monitor their performance vs target and potential attainment.

  • Conducts periodic analysis of the plan to ensure fairness, motivation and effectiveness vs incentive goals and objectives. Provides reporting and feedback as required to senior management. Makes recommendations to commercial leadership around changes to the incentive plan as business needs arise.

  • Maintains system of record (e.g. documents, worksheets, compensation formulas, approvals etc) for the sales incentive plan for Compliance and audit purposes.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, science or technology related discipline.

  • Must have a solid grasp of pharmaceutical industry, including demonstrable experience working with sales data and analytics. Must be familiar with principles of brand strategy.

  • Strong competency for data management including modelling and analysis using tools such as Excel and SQL, as well as data visualisation tools such as Tableau.

  • Superior project management skills; ability to manage competing priorities and assignments through rigorous planning, prioritisation and execution.

  • Excellent communicator, able to express complex ideas and analyses in a clear and compelling manner to diverse groups of stakeholders.

  • Qualifications or certifications in Tableau (or similar data analytics & visualisation tools) and / or marketing e.g. CIM preferred but not essential.
