The Antibody Repertoire Engineering & Screening group is looking for an individual who is eager to learn and apply modern lab techniques (FACS, automation, tissue culture, miniaturization), leverage state-of-the-art molecular cloning, bioinformatics and analytical approaches and access and utilize advanced fit-for-purpose laboratory instruments and systems. The tasks will comprise, but not be limited to, designing your own experiments and developing new biological and molecular assays, evaluating, preparing and presenting your own data.

We are seeking a talented, highly motivated student researcher to join our Antibody Repertoire Engineering and Screening (ARES) team. The group specializes in tackling challenging projects using the tools of molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, immunology and robotics. Our scientists focus on generating and characterizing antibody repertoires against human targets of therapeutic interest using transgenic animal platforms as antibody discovery engines. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly organized, capable individual willing to learn new techniques and apply them to help solve real-world scientific problems. Previous experience with hands-on molecular biology, basic tissue culture and protein purification are assets, as is a willingness to accept new challenges as part of a high-functioning team.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s Degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited from an accredited college or university

prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor’s degree program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Background in Cell Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Biotechnology or a related discipline.

Previous laboratory experience with molecular biology or protein biochemistry.

Effective communication and organizational skills.

Able to work for two consecutive four-month terms with continued employment for the second term dependent on a positive performance review at the end of the first term.

Students with previous laboratory/co-op experience preferred (2nd work term +).

Exquisite attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to comply with written procedures.

Excellent record keeping and time management skills.

Ability to function effectively as part of a team.
