Amgen Senior Associate IS Software Engineer in Burnaby, British Columbia
Amgen is seeking a Senior Associate IS Software Engineer to join the multi-site Research Informatics organization at its Burnaby, Canada research site. The exceptional candidate will join our talented Research Informatics team to deliver solutions by leveraging best practices in Agile and DevOps. This Sr. Associate will report to the Director, Research Informatics supporting Research.
The Senior Associate IS Software Engineer will be part of the team which provides data science support to Research area including screening, discovery and assessment of lead molecules. Informatics plays a vital role in globally enabling the science through delivery of innovative technologies and IT support. The Research Informatics team supports Discovery Research to accelerate and grow Amgen’s pipeline of biopharmaceuticals. An exceptional candidate will provide data science support of the Research processes that will serve as authoritative documentation and reference material on which to base tangible systems designs
Prepare analysis ready data sets to develop data science tools
Contribute to continuous development of bioinformatics (e.g. R Shiny) applications and relevant usage analytics
Develop data processing pipelines for large datasets in the cloud (AWS); integrate with other data sources where applicable
Collaborate with the engineering team members to ensure all services are reliable, maintainable, and well-integrated into existing platforms
Adhere to best practices for testing and designing reusable code
Ensure effective communication between scientific area management, technical staff and vendors to analyze scientific needs and implement informatics solutions in data acquisition, integration and analysis
Work across multiple IS groups supporting Research to develop IS solutions required to enable and further progress business capabilities
Manage internal and external vendors to ensure optimal delivery of the build and run services
- Master’s degree in computer science or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of software engineering experience
Preferred Qualifications :
Knowledge of Pharmaceutical Discovery, Biologics Engineering, Medicinal Chemistry and Informatics. Knowledge of or experience in Life, Physical or Computational Sciences.
Experience in Software Engineering and Development
Strong learning agility, ability to pick up new technologies used to support early drug discovery data analysis needs.
Strong experience working with agile methodology & DevOps (Jenkins, JIRA, Github) frameworks with successful experience working in a collaborative team environment
Experience working with container technologies (e.g., Docker) and developing microservices
Proficiency in software development languages including but not limited to Java and C#
Experience in Cloud (AWS, databricks platforms) & HPC (high performance computing) environments
Experience in developing and supporting web applications including familiarity with web technologies and frameworks (EXTJS, D3 JS, React.js)
Data analysis and reporting experience by leveraging analytics, visualization and database technologies (Oracle, PL SQL, Spotfire, Tableau, Python – NumPy, SciPy, Pandas)
Expert in R scripting and R development in R Shiny;
Experience processing and analyzing large NGS data;
Expertise with translating business requirements to technical requirements and recommend solutions
Knowledge of or experience in Life, Physical or Computational Sciences
Strong written and oral communication skills and technical expertise to be able to communicate effectively with business and technology partners.
Demonstrated track record of designing and delivering innovative solutions that employ agile methodology, dev/ops frameworks, continuous integration, or micro-services
Strong experience in data analytics, visualization, database technologies, scientific process engineering, semantic technologies or deep learning
