Associate Scientist - Computational Protein Engineering
Hybrid Role- You will be working from our Burnaby, BC office about 2 times a week.
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role within Amgen’s Discovery Protein Science group, you will apply and develop computational methods to advance drug discovery to help patients. The team works on implementing and developing protein modelling, design and engineering protocols relevant to the development of novel therapeutics. You will also coordinate closely with other computational groups and wet lab scientists to turn computational models into real-world solutions.
Evaluate, pilot, and develop research methods for the computational redesign of proteins which will support ongoing drug discovery campaigns.
Work in interdisciplinary computational and experimental teams within Amgen to optimize and improve therapeutically relevant proteins.
Stay current with new developments in protein engineering and apply ideas from new methods into computational design workflows to develop better therapeutics.
Develop and share scientific tools with other scientists to enable more effective drug discovery processes.
What we expect of you

Master’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience
Experience with command line computing
MSc. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Biology, Engineering, or related discipline.OR
MSc. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related discipline with relevant programming experience and 2 years of relevant experience.
Strong programming in languages like Python, C/C++, or Java, and experience optimizing the performance of tools in cloud compute environments, such as AWS
Familiarity with structure and function of antibody molecules, and experience with relevant protein design software packages (Knowledge of The Rosetta Software is an asset)
Familiar with high performance cloud computing and the current tools of computational protein design
Solid understanding of wet-lab protein biochemistry experiments which are used to evaluate molecule properties
AI/Machine Learning knowledge is an asset
Comfortable working in a cross-site, collaborative team environment to tackle real world health solutions
Strong interdisciplinary written and verbal communication and teamwork skills
