Amgen Senior Manager Oncology Product Communications in Thousand Oaks, California

Amgen is searching for a Senior Manager for our Thousand Oaks, CA location. The Senior Manager Oncology Product Communications will work with the product communications team for oncology product communications. This position is responsible for the communications planning and execution in preparation for the potential marketing of Amgen's investigational medicines as well as select marketed products.


Develop and execute communications strategies and plans in alignment with the commercial teams to effectively and consistently communicate to key audiences and stakeholders. Once fully vetted and approved, flawlessly execute on those plans and deliver measurable results

Interface with multiple work streams to help coordinate and deliver a consistent and compelling message to key media and other critical audiences

Serve as the corporate affairs representative on many of the formal and informal internal cross-functional groups that have been created to develop strategies and tactics to successfully launch and/or market Amgen products

Develop news releases and other media materials to support key data releases, medical congresses, critical milestones, scientific presentations and product issues

Follow process for review and approval that ensures message buy-in from related parties and Amgen's executive leadership

Along with the Amgen media team, prepare materials for incoming media requests about Amgen products and proactively work to garner favorable press coverage with business, health, trade and consumer press

Manage and direct public relations, digital and/or corporate communications agency partners to assure maximum impact and assistance in reaching desired communications goals and objectives

Anticipate and proactively prepare company spokespeople and third party spokespersons (where appropriate) for issues or events; including media training external and internal spokespeople relative to the launch and/or marketing of Amgen products

Work in partnership with staff and change communication team to ensure awareness of key product milestones and news on the assigned Amgen product with Amgen staff

Domestic and International travel up to 15%

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years public relations or corporate communications experience


Master's degree and 6 years public relations or corporate communications experience


Bachelor's degree or and 8 years public relations or corporate communications experience


Associate's degree and 10 years public relations or corporate communications experience


High school diploma / GED and 12 years public relations or corporate communications experience

Bachelors' Degree in public relations or corporate communications, communications or journalism

Preferred Qualifications:

Biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare product public relations or corporate communications including corporate experience

6+ years of related experience working in-house or within a communications agency as part of team that launched and/or supported a mature, major pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug

Experience in the oncology therapeutic area

Superior writing skills and proven media relations skills that are results-oriented

Proficient knowledge of and experience with digital communications channels and strategies

Strategic and creative thinker with ability to develop actionable programs which integrates soundly with business objectives

Policy experience or crisis management experience

Strong oral and presentation skills; ability to negotiate and persuade

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to deal with rapidly changing priorities

Ability to interact with all levels of management and manage staff and vendors

Excellent interpersonal skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence

Ability to productively navigate a challenging and dynamic environment
