Amgen Scientist - Molecular Biology in Thousand Oaks, California91358

Amgen is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join the molecular biology group in Biologics Optimization at our state-of-the-art research facility at Amgen headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA. The Biologics Optimization group is a multidisciplinary team with capabilities in molecule design, cloning, expression, purification and analysis of therapeutic proteins. The group is responsible for the optimization, production, assessment, and selection of large molecule drug candidates.

The Scientist will utilize their deep expertise in molecular biology, including vector design for recombinant protein expression and modern cloning techniques for the creation of complex multicomponent genetic constructs.

Responsibilities:

Independently design, engineer, and assemble protein and antibody expression constructs for diverse protein classes and expression hosts.

Design high throughput work streams and carry out work using automated equipment.

Act as a scientific leader with the ability to drive innovation, lead projects and teams, solve technical problems, and work both independently and across functions.

Develop and implement innovative technologies to improve efficiency and speed of the processes in the biologics optimization organization.

Provide scientific results that support the generation of publications, patents, or regulatory submissions, and participate in internal and external scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2+ years Postdoctoral experience

Expertise with high throughput cloning processes and automated liquid handling platforms

Expertise in sequence and structure-based protein and antibody design and engineering

Knowledge of successful design strategies for mammalian and prokaryotic expression techniques

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a cross-functional team environment

Demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in research, exemplified by a strong publication and/or patent record

Excellent written and oral communication skills
