Amgen Postdoctoral Fellow - Biosafety Development Lab in Thousand Oaks, California

The Biosafety Development Lab department at Amgen, Inc. is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Amgen Bioprocess Development organization who will help design and conduct research centering on the biosafety of Amgen products. The position will primarily support the advancement of knowledge around the mechanisms for clearance of adventitious viruses from biopharmaceutical processes. The Postdoctoral Fellow will receive advanced training from designated cross-functional scientific advisors to enhance professional skills and independent research aptitude necessary for pursuit of a career in the biotech industry. The Postdoctoral Fellow will develop new ideas that build on current research and will also prepare and publish scientific manuscripts under the direction of the scientific advisors.

The assignment length is expected to be 2 years.

Basic Qualifications

PhD at the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in life sciences (e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, Immunology, Microbiology)

Experience conducting multi-disciplinary translational research

Strong background in one or more of the following: mechanistic modeling, design of experiments, biochemistry, virology, molecular biology

Laboratory experience in one or more of the following: preparative scale protein purification methods (e.g. chromatography, filtration), molecular biology techniques (qPCR/ddPCR, fluorescence microscopy, HPLC, ELISA), virus propagation, purification, and detection, mammalian cell culture, assay development

Refined troubleshooting and problem solving abilities

Proven track record of productivity attested by publications in high-impact journals,

Excellent communication skills including both oral and written presentation

Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work in a cross-functional team environment

Strong entrepreneurial spirit, in line with Amgen's culture of innovation and pursuit of scientific excellence
