Amgen Environmental Health , Safety and Sustainability Manager in Thousand Oaks, California

The Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability Manager (EHSS) will drive world class EHSS performance in a diverse Biotech/Pharma environment. This role is responsible for execution of key EHSS Management Systems specific to Data Management.


Program Owner for Data Management:

Update and Coordinate EHS Training Program including enhancing the use of the Training Management System

Manage data collection & analysis of EHS metrics & reports including; Incident Investigation, Audits & Inspections, BOP, and Training

Serve as the plant Administrator of EHSS INCA & other data management systems

Manage Safety Alerts response process

Program Ownership and/or Support:

Serve as site owner of one or more of the following programs while also providing critical support toward the success of these programs: Incident Management, Compliance Assurance- Audits and Inspections, EHSS Training Management, and Behavior Observation Program (BOP).

Apply a Plan, Do, Check, Act management systems approach to drive continuous improvement of assigned EHSS programs and to achieve best in class safety standards

Ensure regulatory compliance for all assigned programs and liaise with regulatory authorities as appropriate

Implement robust compliance readiness and internal auditing programs

Collaborate cross functionally to influence management

Client Support:

Support laboratory and/or manufacturing clients with input from other EHSS subject matter experts at the site and from within the Amgen R&D and Manufacturing community.

Partner with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks

Analyze metrics and establish annual action plans to drive continuous improvement.

Establish and execute risk assessment plans for clients to ensure all risks are proactively addressed and control systems are implemented and maintained

Ensure all changes with potential EHSS impact are assessed and controls are established prior to implementation

Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed

Establish safe work procedures for hazardous work

Conduct regular inspections of the work areas

Monitor incident trends and assist management in conducting incident investigations to implement robust corrective actions to prevent future incidents and injuries

Conduct regular EHSS management reviews with Client Leadership

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree OR

Master's degree and 3 years of Corporate Services experience OR

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Corporate Services experience OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Corporate Services experience OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Corporate Services experience

Strong leadership and team building skills

Ability to partner with and effectively influence staff and management

Process driven with a strong Operational Excellence mindset

Strong technical writing, communication and presentation skills

Action oriented and self-starting

Program development and project management experience

Excel, PowerPoint, and Database Management experience

CSP (Certified Safety Professional) and/or CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) certification

Experience in developing and implementing EHSS Management Systems in a biotech/pharma industry

Knowledge of US and California regulations as they pertain to pharma/ biotech operations

Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS principles and best practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities

Experience working with Small Molecule/Chemistry Support and/or Device Development
