Amgen Principal Information Systems Architect in Tampa, Florida

Amgen is searching for a Principal IS Architect who will report to the Senior Project Manager and will be based in Tampa, FL, at Amgen's new Capability Center. This state-of-the art center serves as a base for finance, information systems, and human resources professionals to make a meaningful impact at one of the world's leading biotechnology companies.

The IS Architect plays an integral role in building Amgen's Internet of Things and medical device strategies by providing drawing on prior experience in the space and crafting an achievable, holistic vision for IoT-focused efforts at Amgen. The IS Architect partners with both business, technology, and security groups to ensure it aligns with the company's overall objectives and tactically drives its execution.

The IS Architect will be responsible for crafting technology roadmaps and driving its tactical execution. Candidate will be hands on with designing, leading and implementing services & solutions in both on premise & public cloud. Successful candidate will think with the breadth of a Product Owner and the depth of a hands-on Engineer. This includes being accountable for forming and leading virtual cross functional teams to deliver secure technology solutions for the business with speed and agility.

Responsibilities

Support the Service Owner, peer FTE's, and managed service provider in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the technology service, ensuring the offering is aligned with the key principles of service ownership listed below:

Be accountable for continuous development and management of architectural roadmaps, designs, standards and detailed specifications for cloud integrated services

Demonstrated ability to rapidly absorb and embrace new technologies securely & apply them appropriately to solve business problems in alignment with the strategic direction

Excellent communication, leadership and negotiation skills with ability to drive decisions amongst stakeholders

Lead efforts to design, build & develop Proof of Concept (POC) solutions and partner with service teams to transition to an operational model where appropriate

Provide thought leadership and technical oversight in the IoT and/or Medical Device space

Partner with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into secure technological solutions

Advice on balancing business, technical & cost constraints in support of projects

Evangelizes & communicates roadmap with IS & Business partners

Leads secure software development or automation for proposed solution. Defines user stories & features in collaboration with cross functional teams in an agile & face paced development environment

Demonstrated understanding of IoT security frameworks (e.g., OWASP)

Provide technical mentoring & coaching to junior engineers or architects

Some travel, both domestic and international, that is expected to be less than 10%.

Domestic travel up to 10%.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems Architecture experience

OR

Master's degree and 6 years of Information Systems Architecture experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 8 years of Information Systems Architecture experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems Architecture experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems Architecture experience

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to balance innovative and rapidly-changing business needs with the requirement to remain secure and compliant

Knowledge of and experience using IoT PaaS services from public cloud providers (e.g. AWS Greengrass, IBM Watson IoT)

Understanding of the security and identity challenges specific to the IoT space and patterns for addressing those challenges.

Background in integrating modern technologies with more traditional enterprise 'backend' systems

Comfort with high levels of ambiguity on emerging and changing requirements

Experience designing and deploying solutions in healthcare or other regulated industry

Solution architecture experience for one or more public cloud (AWS, Azure or Google), using their IaaS or PaaS capabilities

Working experience with IoT security standards and principles; confidentiality, integrity, and availability

Development experience using languages such as C#/.NET, Java, Python, Golang, JavaScript etc.

Automation experience using Chef/Puppet, Ansible, Shell Scripting in Windows or Linux environments

Familiarity with software development tools (such as Git, SVN, Jenkins, ... ) and practices (such as CI/CD)

Excellent data-driven problem solving and analytical skills

Proven experience as part of a high performance team

Skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues
