Amgen Sr Associate Scientist - Cardiometabolic Disorders in South San Francisco, California

A Senior Associate Scientist position is open in the Cardiometabolic Disorders department in South San Francisco to investigate a variety of disease areas and therapeutic modalities, including liver disease, kidney disease, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.

The successful applicant will join a team of experienced researchers to develop novel therapeutic platforms, explore opportunistic areas for drug development, and drive discovery programs through the early stages of the pipeline. The position will require using cellular and molecular biology techniques to identify and/or validate new therapeutic targets, an ability to develop and run in vitro assays, perform high throughput screening, and an ability to perform small animal in vivo research.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 3 years of scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 5 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cell culture, standard molecular biology techniques (cloning, protein expression and purification, qPCR, western blots, etc), ELISAs, flow cytometry, and development of biochemical and cell-based assays using a variety of different technologies and readouts

Familiarity with high throughput SAR support, ligand binding assays, automated sample handling, and cell imaging is advantageous

At least 3 years of experience performing small animal study research; expertise in rodent in vivo imaging is advantageous

Self-motivated with ability to work as a strong individual contributor and as an integral member of a team

Excellent communication skills, versatile, organized, able to adhere to strict compliance policies, enthusiastic about learning new techniques and approaches to solving problems, and ability to analyze, interpret, and present experimental results.

Proficiency in standard database, spreadsheet and presentation applications (GraphPad Prism, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
