Amgen Scientist - Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism in South San Francisco, California

Amgen is seeking a Scientist of Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism. This position is located in Amgen's South San Francisco location.

The department of Pharmacokinetics & Drug Metabolism (PKDM) within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of safe and effective medicines by elucidating the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of novel therapeutic drug candidates to improve their pharmacological potential.

PKDM works in close partnership with disciplines such as protein science, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to engineer promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to Investigational New Drug IND and New Drug Application NDA filings.

The responsibilities of the Scientist will be to apply cell biology and protein biochemistry expertise to support understanding of protein therapeutic disposition, in specific, understanding of protein therapeutics Target-Mediated Drug Disposition (TMDD) and the impact of TMDD on drug catabolite formation, Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics (PKPD). The Scientist will work closely with project team representatives to design and execute (PKPD) studies and provide meaningful recommendations on therapeutic candidate profiles in support of Amgen's biologics drug discovery pipelines.

The Scientist will work in a highly dynamic environment and will collaborate with experts in bioanalytical sciences and mathematical modelling. Other responsibilities will include electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in pharmaceutical, chemical, or biological science

2+ years of drug discovery and/or development experience

Experience with PK, PD and/or distribution of small molecule and biological therapeutics

Experience using PKPD modelling platforms

Critical thinking, and demonstrated ability to communicate with team members across broad disciplines

Excellent communication skills to allow efficient communication of biology and PK information to inform model building and subsequent learnings from modelling
