Amgen's Comparative Biology and Safety Sciences (CBSS), is expanding at our San Francisco site to meet the needs of our developing R&D organization.
We are seeking a talented and versatile Principal Scientist to join our growing Immunobiology and Clinical Pathology group as leader of the team implementing the safety biomarker plans vital to progression of a wide range of novel drug candidates of diverse modalities. Working closely with colleagues in a highly team-oriented and collaborative environment, the Principal Scientist, will also be a key scientific contributor in developing the safety biomarker strategy in nonclinical species, and actively participate in issue resolution plans aimed at solving complex and challenging scientific questions.
Provide scientific leadership and mentoring to a group of outstanding laboratory scientists and promote a highly functional and positive team-oriented working environment committed to professional development, opportunity and success.
Apply broad scientific background and technical expertise working closely with clinical pathologists and laboratory scientists, as well as, internal and external experts in tackling a wide range of challenging diverse scientific questions.
Responsible for the scientific design and implementation of protocols and experimental plans of approved safety biomarker projects, and accountable for high quality, and impactful data and interpretations generated by your team.
Investigate novel platforms and technologies that can contribute to the next generation safety biomarkers, and welcome opportunities to adopt new scientific tools and methodologies to deliver results.
Doctorate degree and 3 years of scientific experience
Master's degree and 6 years of scientific experience
Bachelor's degree and 8 years of scientific experience
Ph.D. molecular or cell biology, immunology, clinical pathology, or a related discipline with 7+ years of experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry with a focus on safety biomarker development and implementation
D.V.M. and Ph.D. and ACVP or ECVP board certification in veterinary clinical pathology with 2+ years of experience in the biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry with a focus on safety biomarker development and implementation
Detailed knowledge and experience of drug safety assessment in the pharmaceutical industry
Deep expertise in high sensitivity protein and/or nucleic acid based platforms (traditional and single molecule arrays, Luminex, Quanterix, Singluex, MSD and others)
Ability to critically evaluate, integrate and interpret nonclinical data sets to support clinical decision making
Experience in resolving experimental questions through design and application of both traditional and innovative scientific and technical approaches
Demonstration of scientific excellence, curiosity, proactivity, critical thinking and review
Recognized externally in areas of expertise and a strong publication track record in top tier journals
Excellent leadership and communication skills and the ability to influence inspire and lead teams into new scientific areas
