Amgen Principal Scientist - Inflammation Research in South San Francisco, California

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Inflammation/Oncology Research Therapeutic Area at Amgen in South San Francisco as a Principal Scientist to drive the discovery and validation of novel targets in Immuno-oncology and inflammatory disease for the development of innovative medicines. The candidate will be an integral member of the research team, collaborate with research scientists at multiple Amgen sites, and work closely with teams in other functional areas including Medical Sciences and toxicology. Innovative and interdisciplinary approaches towards identification of mechanisms driving disease pathogenesis and novel targets are required. In this position, the individual will have a number of reports is expected to lead a project team and make major scientific laboratory-based contributions to the research goals and milestones of the Inflammation/Oncology therapeutic area. Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 3 years of scientific experience


Master's degree and 6 years of scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 8 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest in and knowledge and experience of drug discovery, Immunology, Oncology or other areas of inflammatory biology are preferred. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated track record of independent critical thinking and scientific achievement in more than one area of research, exemplified by an excellent publication record. Expertise in analysis of high throughput datasets (e.g. DNA microarray and RNA-seq), imaging techniques and complex cell-based assays is also highly desired. Experience in drug development/discovery environment is strongly preferred. Experience in human disease research is strongly preferred. The candidate should be knowledgeable, highly motivated, creative, and collaborative. This position will require excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative research environment.
