The Neuroscience department in Cambridge, MA is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to study the biology of axon degeneration in motor neuron disease. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will set up a reliable high content imaging assay for axonal degeneration in motor neurons from familial (C9ORF72, TDP43) and sporadic ALS patients versus controls. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will characterize axonal degeneration under control conditions and as result of various insults, such as mitochondrial depolarization, toxic glia, protein aggregate formation, proteasome inhibition and axonal injury. Activation of signaling cascades and impact of knock down of key molecules by siRNA will be studied using immunofluorescence, western blotting and kinase assays. Genetic aspects will be studied using an allelic skewing assay.

The Post-Doctoral fellow will interact with a diverse group of biochemists, imaging biologists, cell biologists and computational specialists at Amgen, as well as collaborators at Harvard University.

The assignment length is expected to be 3 years

Basic Qualifications

PhD at the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications

PhD. in Neuroscience.

Expertise with tissue culture (human iPS and ES cells, primary neuronal and glial cultures, cell lines), protein biochemistry (quantitative immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation), in vitro patch clamp electrophysiology, molecular biology (PCR, RT-PCR, neuronal transfection), microspectrofluorimetry, immunocytochemistry.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent time management skills, effective team player, adaptable, efficient, independent, and reliable.
